Being overweight and obese puts you at risk for possible complications such as type 2 diabetes, hypertension, cardiovascular problems and metabolic syndrome.  To prevent this from happening, the best thing for you to do is watch out for warning signs that may tell you that you truly need to lose weight:

Chronic diseases within your family circle.  If some of your relatives have diabetes and heart problem histories, chances are you are going to have them too.  To prevent this from happening, control your eating habits and lose weight.

Preexisting medical problems. If you are already having some medical problems such as type 2 diabetes, atherosclerosis, heart diseases, hypertension and history of stroke, the best thing for you to do is to control your appetite, improve your physical activity and lose weight.  Being overweight or obese can only make these conditions worse. And so, to help you eliminate these health problems, lose weight.

Having a large waist line. Men who have a waistline of 40 inches and above and women who have a waist line of more than 35 inches are at risk to the development of chronic health problems. Regardless of your weight, having a waistline that is as large or much larger the mentioned waistlines can already put you at risk for the said chronic health conditions. To prevent yourself from having these problems, trim your waist line.
