In a recent study published by The International Journal of Applied and Basic Nutritional Sciences in March 2003, the researchers have noted that apples and pears are effective in producing weight loss.  In this study, a population of 30 to 50 year-old women with high blood cholesterol and obesity were selected. They were randomly assigned to different diet plans that can trigger gradual weight loss. After twelve weeks of continuous diet, the researchers noted that those women who were assigned to add pears and apples to their usual diet have a more significant weight reduction average of 1.22 kilos compared to those who did not have the fruit diet.  Furthermore, this group of women also had a significant decrease in their blood sugar and blood cholesterol levels.

But the benefits of eating apples do not stop here.  In another study published by the Nutrition Journal in 2004, it was also mentioned that apples may also play a large role in reducing the risks associated with chronic diseases such as heart disease, cancer and asthma. In fact, according to this study, these benefits were not seen in other fruits and vegetables such as onions, white cabbage, grapefruit and orange.

And so, if you are planning to have a weight reduction program, why not consider checking your fridge first?  Who knows, the solution to your obesity and other health problem might just be inside your fridge.
