A study published by Nutrition Research suggest that using honey, in replacement for the regular table sugar, can trigger weight loss and fat deposition in laboratory mice.

In this study, 36 male rats were randomly assigned and fed with one of the two diets: diet with 20% carbohydrates in the form of sugar and diet with honey. They were then observed for 33 days. After 33 days, their weight gain and abdominal fat adiposity were examined and analyzed. The researcher’s findings? The rats that were fed with honey have lesser weight gain, lower triglyceride blood concentration and higher values of HDL, the good cholesterol.

Thus, they have concluded that honey may aid weight loss by decreasing food intake and increasing HDL concentrations within the blood.  However clinical trials in human subjects are still needed to further prove this fact.
